🩴 Barefoot Sandals Review – Bosky Z-Tech vs Y-Tech
Hello to all barefoot sandals fans!
In this video, I review the Bosky Shoes barefoot sandals – the Z-Tech (toe loop 🦶) and Y-Tech (thong-style 🩴) models from the Czech brand 🇨🇿 Bosky Shoes.
They can also be used as running sandals or camp shoes 🏕️. Bonus points for the eco-friendly packaging – no plastic used ♻️.
🔍 Z-Tech – Features & Downsides
The Z-Tech is a toe loop design, so you can wear them with socks 🧦 – perfect for the Czech leisure look.
At 359 g (size 41) and priced at €99 💶, they’re solid and suitable even for mountain crossings ⛰️.
I tested them extensively over summer and found the strap system well-designed, but the footbed gets slippery when wet 💧 unless you choose the leather version.
The straps were too long and stuck out, so I trimmed them. But that made them harder to put on 😅 – lesson learned: measure twice, cut once ✂️.
🆚 Z-Tech vs Y-Tech
While Z-Tech offers better grip on rough terrain, the Y-Tech is far more comfortable 😌. The thong-style strap allows natural toe splay, while the toe loop version can restrict it.
If you dislike things between your toes or wear socks often, Z-Tech is a valid choice. But for comfort and foot freedom, Y-Tech wins 🏆.
📊 Performance Comparison
- Z-Tech = better hold in tough terrain 🪨
- Y-Tech = more comfort & better toe splay 👣
In steep uphill conditions, Y-Tech loses grip where Z-Tech excels. But for regular use, the Y-Tech is more pleasant overall.
🆚 vs DIY Ultralight Camp Shoes
Compared to my ultralight camp shoes from the eshop 🧰, Bosky sandals are 219 g heavier and €80 more expensive 💸 – but also much more durable 🔩. Different categories of barefoot sandals.
🎯 Recommendation
💡 Ideally, use two pairs:
- 🩴 Y-Tech for daily comfort (leather version = even better)
- ⚖️ Ultralight DIY sandals for backup camp shoes
If you want just one pair and value versatility, go with Z-Tech. If weight and price are more important, or you just need camp shoes, choose the ultralight option.
